Meet Mr. Willice Onyango; the founder and Executive Director here at The Youth Cafe; a multi-award-winning Pan-African youth organization. He is a seasoned leader for this generation who is leading young and redefining the story of Africa's young people by casting his lot with not only allowing the youth to lead; but also involving them from design, to implementation and follow-up of the youth-led initiatives at the Youth Cafe.
He previously served as a global youth representative to the UN High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on Post 2015, which was co-chaired by the British Prime minister, Liberian and Indonesian presidents in the African Union Working Group on Food Security and Demographic Dividend. He equally serves as the director of the International Youth Council, Kenya.
He has been invited to speak at numerous international forums spanning 28 countries including the 68th UN General Assembly, World Bank Youth Forum, AU Heads of States Summit, European Investment Bank Africa Day among other conferences on youth, development, and democracy.
He is an alumnus of the One Young World, International Young Leaders Assembly and completed the Civic Leadership Institute at the Staley School of Leadership at Kansas State University in the USA.
Willice is the author of the ‘Coalition for Kenya Youth Manifesto’ that unified the aspirations of the everyday ordinary Kenyan youth into a common philosophy, leading to the publication and launch of the first-ever non-partisan blueprint for Kenyan youth.
He is a columnist for The Star Newspaper, The Standard Newspaper, Huffington Post, Open Democracy, World Economic Forum, among other publications.
We got to have a dialogue with him to hear his story on the unseen opportunities that led to the establishment of The Youth Cafe, his challenges and biggest satisfaction while at it, the actionable and achievable activities at The Youth Cafe that are engaging the youth and providing a start point for them, how the youth can be empowered, the future he envisions for the youth in upcoming years and his message to young leaders.
