"Skills Trainer" is a job title we use at TYC to encompass a range of skills all related to supporting and connecting with youth in a variety of settings throughout the community.

We are currently hiring Skills Trainers!

Our program offers youth from all over Kenya the unique opportunity to have their skill and competencies enhanced, thus making them competitive in the labour market. The program aims to impart to the youths essential skills that will help them not only smoothly transition into the job market, but also develop their capabilities to stand out in any working environment.

Skills Trainers who work within our program will build rapport with youth, provide behavioral interventions, lead activities and teach life skills. Within this program skills trainers develop strong working relationships with TYC and community members to teach and model the youths in daily functioning, competency, and confidence within their lives.

Upon joining our team of skilled individuals, you will have opportunities to further your personal and professional development with the support of supervision and direction from our amazing management teams, access to various training, and everyday opportunities to learn with and from the young people we serve.

Generally, the skills trainer will:

Help beneficiaries identify personal strengths and skills based on educational background, employment history, and career goals;

Provide beneficiaries with information and strategies for excelling in the workplace and dealing with job dissatisfaction;

Identify individual barriers to employment and assess need for further training;

Assist beneficiaries with job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing resumes, and preparing for job interviews;

Life Skills Training

Conduct life skills training to teach psychosocial skills such as decision-making, conflict resolution, and emotions management, Empathy,Social inclusion,Positive self-concept, Design thinking, Resilience, among others;

Financial literacy

Develop and provide classroom teaching to implement a financial literacy curriculum to teach beneficiaries low literacy how to manage personal finances responsibly and obtain financial self-sufficiency;

Motivate students to take control of their financial well-being;
Develop and implement strategies to support and foster financial literacy to students.

Application requirements

  1. Persons who satisfy the following requirements are eligible to apply.

  2. Youths between the ages of 18 to 35.

  3. Holds citizenship of an eligible country or region.

  4. Proficiency in English or Kiswahili.

  5. Should have a relevant certification as a trainer by a relevant body.

  6. Should have been a trainer before.

  7. Should be ready to commit for a year.

Job description

  1. Create, update and maintain training materials, manuals, handouts, practice exercises and administrative documentation;

  2. Develop a proposal for the training program/plan/curriculum, including the training

  3. Objectives, training topics, and duration, for training, referred beneficiaries;

  4. Design tools and guidelines for the training of beneficiary youth.

  5. Design the outline structures of the training materials and discuss with The Youth Cafe

  6. Maintain standardised student assessments and record keeping system for student

    progress and attendance;

  1. Work with the The Youth Cafe to ensure that student case files are maintained properly and student progress reports are reviewed periodically to reflect individual progress towards goals;

  2. Participate in needs and interest assessments and regularly monitor beneficiaries’ well-being and needs;

  3. Establish rapport/trust with beneficiaries;

  4. Integrate a variety of teaching strategies and curriculum content;

  5. Give explanations, reasonable and appropriate assignments, and directions clearly;

  6. Organize the classroom to contribute to the learning process;

  7. Be responsible for delivery of the course throughout the year, utilising staff within

    Bridges as required

  8. Ensure training meets required learning outcomes and prepares clients for onward

    progression

  9. Prepare progress reports and evaluation of each participants outcomes achieved on the

    course

  1. Knowledge of practices of skill building in youth.

  2. Ability to work as part of a team.

  4. Knowledge of human behavior and various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

  5. Ability to deal impartially with individuals of various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural

    backgrounds.

  6. Ability to work safely and support the culture of workplace safety.

  7. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other

    agencies and the public.

  9. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  10. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
