The Political Dialogue Village provided an opportunity for constructive, issue-based inter-party dialogue and debate on contemporary democracy issues. The running themes of this village revolved around the cyclical nature of elections and the issues that revolve around it. The villagers agreed that elections do not start and end on voting day; hence, there is a need to focus on the role of the citizens in Kenya’s electoral process as voters and accountability partners. Key discussions centred on topics such as public participation, accountability, legislative reforms, and gender parity.
Sustainable Development Goals Village, State Of SDG Implementation | Peoples Dialogue Festival 2024
The SDG Village served as a focal point for high-level discussions on sustainable development, addressing a wide array of topics critical to attaining the SDGs. These included collaborative democracy for sustainable development, county engagements on SDGs, financing strategies with a gender perspective, and the nexus between human rights and SDG realisation. Additionally, the role of various stakeholders, such as parliamentarians, innovation startups, and media, in combating climate change and supporting climate innovation was explored. Discussions also revolved around accelerating gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, assessing progress on specific SDGs, and identifying policy and legal barriers to their achievement. Political parties’ involvement in localising SDGs was another significant area of focus.

The Climate Damages Tax (CDT) addresses the injustice of climate devastation impacting populations around the world who did not cause the climate change but are left to pay for it without the means to do so. It looks to the fossil fuel industry - the burning of whose products are the root cause of the problem - who are currently making grotesque levels of profits in the hundreds of billions of dollars every year, to be held accountable for their actions. Most specifically, by being taxed considerably more to help pay for the skyrocketing bill for damages they have to date avoided.
