The Youth Cafe at a leadership training.

The Youth Cafe at a leadership training.

The need to invest in capacity building and expansion of skill sets so that program participants are strong, result-oriented leaders is clear. Statistics show that nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35. Who will empower and lead these young Africans? Who will shape the future of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management in Africa?

The Youth Cafe’s new facility will serve as regional hub across the continent and bring greater efficiency and effectiveness in the way we manage our transformational training and signature leadership programs.

Our strategy has always been to look at today’s youth bulge as an opportunity for development and economic growth, and establish pathways to tackle the many specific issues facing our youth. This is why are the lead organisation for implementing a broad range of personal and professional development programs spanning democratic engagement, life skills, job activation, media advocacy, entrepreneurship, peace and conflict prevention, among others. To date, The Youth Cafe has reached 1.6 million young men and women with our projects and attracted major partners such as IFAD, MasterCard Foundation, and Google. Yet, The Youth Cafe’s desired impact is limited by its current location, an inadequate office space in Nairobi co-shared by dozens of other companies. Explore some of our impacts!

The impact of this Center will be to consolidate The Youth Café’s position as a key convener
and a leading youth empowerment organization within Kenya and Africa. This in itself would
send a powerful message that ‘young people are ready to partner in shaping Africa’s future’.
— Willice Onyango, Executive Direct of The Youth Cafe

I am really excited to learn about The Youth Cafe new facility in Nairobi. This is more than a construction project, it’s a matter of giving physical space to address democracy, a place where young African leaders can learn the skills to guide their countries to a new future. Willice Onyango is one the most inspiring and talented young African leaders. I am sure that he will succeed making The Youth Cafe a force of African democracy
