Youth Input to the UN75 Declaration Elements Paper - Make Your Voices Heard!

The Youth Cafe want to hear from you !

Year 2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations (UN75). On 14 June 2019, the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution (73/299) to commemorate in 2020 the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations under the theme “The future we want, the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism”. More information on UN75 can be found at: https://www.un.org/en/un75

To mark its 75th anniversary, The Youth Cafe and the United Nations have launched the biggest-ever global conversation on the role of global cooperation in building the future we want. Tackling issues such as the climate crisis, inequality, health emergencies, new patterns of violence and the major changes we are seeing in population and technology; in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and - our shared vision for the future - will require cooperation across borders, sectors and generations. The COVID-19 pandemic has altered not just our everyday reality but has reshaped our thoughts about the common future and the ways in which we could achieve a sustainable, just and peaceful world for everyone.

This UN75 process will culminate with an adoption of an intergovernmental-agreed UN75 Declaration which will be a concise, substantive, forward-looking and unifying declaration capturing the collective commitment of Member States to multilateralism and to the United Nations and their shared vision for a common future. The UN General Assembly appointed Qatar and Sweden as two co-facilitators to lead and conclude intergovernmental negotiations on the Declaration no later than June 2020. The two co-facilitators have recently shared with the Member States, an Elements Paper to serve as the basis for the UN75 Declaration. They are particularly interested in young people's reactions, feedback, and perspectives.

The Elements Paper can be found at the following link as a PDF: https://bit.ly/2zVJ8WU ; and at the following link as a Word Document: https://tinyurl.com/UN75Paper

Your responses to this survey will serve as a valuable input to a virtual Town Hall meeting, to take place May 26th, during which young people will discuss and present to the two co-facilitators and the Member States more broadly, their input to the Elements Paper and the UN75 Declaration.

This survey should take you 15-20 minutes to complete. Deadline for contributions is Tuesday May 26.
