Seoul Declaration On Media And Information Literacy For Everyone And By Everyone: A Defence Against Disinfodemics

Media and information literacy (MIL) is a core competency for addressing the disinfodemic, and that MIL also contributes to access to information, freedom of expression, protection of privacy, prevention of violent extremism, promotion of digital security, and combating hate speech and inequality. Requested UNESCO, in cooperation with other UN Agencies, to “maintain a focus on inclusion of disadvantaged groups in MIL engagements, and to continue to foster gender equality in relation to MIL.”

It further states that Covid-19 has created uncertainties about the future amongst the youth.

The participatory budgeting workshop on 20th July 2020 was organized by International Republican Institute (IRI) and hosted by People Powered organization. IRI is a non-partisan and non-profit organization based in Washington DC focusing on increasing freedom and participation in policy development. The organization came up with the Generation Democracy network which covers more than 70 countries in helping them understand government and political systems. The mission of People Powered is to expand people’s power to make government decisions, by supporting organizations and governments that are building participatory democracy around the world.

In particular, the content of this submission comes from the consultations held at the Youth Forum held in conjunction with the XII Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development in Quito 2020 , a mapping of youth-led and youth-focused alternatives to child dentition in Latin America, and a recent webinar we held about the effects of COVID on youth on the move.
