Building on this momentum and the upcoming International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) on December 9, themed “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity”, UNODC’s Africa Anti-corruption Hub, The Youth Cafe, in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Kenya (NYC), is planning a forum for young people in Kenya to educate them on key anti-corruption priorities and accountability actions, share experience and propose innovative solutions to promote transparency and accountability of government institutions in Kenya.
The Global Diplomatic Dialogue | The Voice and Value of Democracy in Africa including Climate Change Governance Simulation
The dialogue on ‘The Voice and Value of Democracy in Africa’ was held at Riara University in Nairobi on November 19, 2024. The event, co-organized by The Youth Café in collaboration with Riara University, brought together diverse stakeholders, including students, government leaders, representatives from civic society organizations, digital innovators, scholars, experts and activists. The event was both physical and streamed live for virtual participants. The total number of participants was 78. Notably, 59% of the participants were aged 20-30 years while 58% were female, highlighting the emphasis on women and youth inclusivity in the dialogue.
Advocacy Workshop Day One | Youth Leaders Discuss Why Democracy Tomorrow Means Climate Action Today
The 2-day advocacy workshop was designed to be a hybrid event, offering both in-person and virtual participation options. The physical event was be hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, providing an opportunity for direct engagement and collaboration. The hybrid format enabled the inclusion of a broader audience, reaching youth, young women, and youth networks globally. The first day of the workshop marks a crucial step in the journey towards equipping young advocates with the necessary resources to drive meaningful change.
Virtual Training On Digital Media Literacy
“My Digital World” is a Meta Digital Literacy Program aimed at equipping social media users with knowledge, skills, and competencies on verifying and handling Misinformation and Disinformation While taking full benefit of what these online spaces offer. Within this context, The Youth Cafe collaborated with iEARN to deliver ‘MY DIGITAL WORLD’ training to The Youth Cafe Youth Network. Hosted by iEARN on the Zoom platform, the training attracted 115 youths who registered to participate in the session. The training occurred on December 5, 2023, at 2 pm EAT.
16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2023 | Exploring Online Gender-Based Violence Among Youth in Kenya
In partnership with Young Women Leaders Connect(YWLC), The Youth Cafe organized a Twitter(X) space and chat discussion on December 7, 2023, centred around the theme 'Exploring Online Gender-Based Violence Among Youth in Kenya.' A turnout of 635 participants, composed of young individuals and youth organizations, actively engaged in the live discourse on Twitter(X). Additionally, many viewers continued to join the conversation and interacted with the Twitter(X) recording post-event. The discussions provided an invaluable platform for raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and encouraging meaningful interactions surrounding the critical issue of online gender-based violence affecting the youth in Kenya.

Launched in September 2023, the "Scam Slam" campaign is a testament to The Youth Cafe and Africa Check’s dedication to enhancing public awareness, especially among the youth. We believe equipping our youth with a solid understanding of financial literacy concepts is crucial. "Scam Slam" entails a variety of vital topics - from recognising and establishing one’s financial values, understanding the profound effects of advertising, and providing indispensable financial advice for young adults to shedding light on effective job-search strategies. More importantly, we've focused heavily on empowering individuals with the knowledge to recognise, avoid, and react appropriately to online scams and dubious financial information.
Twaweza East Africa Launch Of The State Of Devolution National Research Report | Power To The People?
The Youth Cafe participated in the event held on 27th November 2023 at Villa Rosa Kempinski from 0900hrs to 1400hrs. The main items discussed in the meeting were citizens’ opinions on devolution practice, citizens’ support for devolution in Kenya, Citizen’s concerns about devolution, how government functions should be allocated between county and national government, budget allocation and its impact on society and public participation.
Launching The European Union Youth Empowerment Fund I Financial Support To Youth-Led Initiatives
The Youth Cafe participated in the Launching of the EU Youth Empowerment Fund Launch (YEF). YEF is the key flagship of the empowerment pillar of the Youth Action Plan in EU External Action (YAP). The YAP features flagships for the three pillars of the plan: engage, connect and empower. The YEF will be implemented as a pilot initiative worth €10 million that will provide direct financial support to youth-led initiatives in partner countries focusing on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level, in particular on environment and climate change and the inclusion of vulnerable and marginalised youth.

On 25 May 2023, The Youth Cafe Collaborated with OHCHR DESIB in a virtual Youth Engagement Session: This 90 minutes webinar session brought together youth from different countries and backgrounds in a dialogue to identify barriers to implementing economic, social, and cultural rights and approaches to operationalize these rights as a framework for addressing local and global challenges; raise awareness of the young people across the world about economic, social and cultural rights; promote initiatives and diverse implications of the youth; and to strengthen the linkages between the youth-led organizations.
Young People Re-defining the Future of Democratic Processes in Africa
On the 11th of August 2023, The Youth Cafe, in partnership with Youth Democracy Cohort and the European Union, organized a webinar under the subject of ‘Young People re-defining the future of democratic processes in Africa.’ This 90-minute webinar explored how young people, especially young women, can take an active and meaningful role in shaping the democratic processes in Africa. This webinar was part of a broader project, “The Ignite African Youth Project” and was in line with the commemoration of International Youth Day 2023 under the theme ‘Green skills for youth towards a sustainable world’, highlighting the need for empowering youth with the skills necessary to drive sustainability initiatives at local and global levels.
